How to choose a pet groomer

Basically there are tree groups of pet groomers, on the first one we can count the dog & cat lovers whose who started grooming their own pet and decided make a career of that, working on the other people pets. Second one are the hands-on groomers, that ones who started learning how to do it with another groomer. The third group is all the rest who have former education from a grooming school. (I am not including here the people who learn how to groom with an internet course….).

You must NEVER feel embarrassed for to ask about certifications, experience, education, etc... to a groomer, after all you are hiring a groomer. You have the right.

Check out the grooming shop, ask to see how the pets are being dried (closed dryer cages are not safe), pay attention if everything looks clean and without smell. Ask the groomer if you can stay with your pets during the grooming session, if no one is allow to stay you may ask why and if there’s no reasonable reason for that , avoid the place.

Remember to ask about schedule issues, if everybody must come by 8 or 9, the waiting time will be long and stressful. The average time of a full grooming is about 2 or 3 hours (depending of the breed). Usually a responsible groomer has the schedule done according the breeds of the dogs or cats that are coming to be groomed, if you are being told that your appointment can be squeezed on the schedule, avoid the place.
